Ever wonder what the unaired episodes of situation comedies that disappeared quickly from the air were about? Curious about those comedy series such as Rewind, The Grubbs, and The Ortegas that the Fox network announced for its fall schedule but that never premiered? Did you know that stars like Bradley Cooper, Michelle Williams, and Brad Pitt made some of their earliest appearances on short-lived sitcoms? Forgotten Laughs: An Episode Guide to 150 TV Sitcoms You Probably Never Saw contains answers to these questions as well as others about quickly-canceled, never-aired, and short-run situation comedies.
Published for the first time are episode descriptions for these forgotten shows.
This reference book contains the most complete descriptions of sitcoms such as the quickly-canceled Doc Corkle, Co-Ed Fever, and Black Tie Affair, the never-aired Misconceptions, The Singles Table, and Snip, as well as short-run comedies like Fathers and Sons and Free Country and over 140 more.
Most episode descriptions were culled from the archives of the Library of Congress, the Paley Center, and the UCLA TV script collection.
In addition, Forgotten Laughs also includes insights from many producers, directors, and writers who worked on these little-known shows.

  •     Forgotten Laughs is a fantastic book that focuses on comedies that lasted six episodes...or less. Many of the sitcoms were initially picked up for thirteen episodes but didn't survive past their first or second week on the air. Some of the shows were cancelled before even one episode got on the air. The book includes detailed episode guides for the aired, unaired or, in some cases, unproduced episodes of each series and gives the backstories on their development and cancellation. It's a treasure trove of information and a fascinating glimpse into the world of network television scheduling and development. It's an exhaustively-researched, smoothly written, must-have reference book for TV industry followers. I absolutely loved it. I hope Irvin will follow up with a sequel covering forgotten one-hour dramas.
  •     I found it fascinating. Very impressed with all of the research that went in to it. Really enjoyed this book.
  •     Excellent research book for television comedies that are now mostly forgotten or were never shown. Index for writers, directors and actors provides easy reference. An opportunity to enlighten television buffs on shows they may have missed. When new network Vice-Presidents or CEO's would come in, many times, they would shelve the work of their predecessors. The result of this meant that work done by writers, directors and actors on certain sitcoms was never shown on television. This is the only book that profiles many of these never-aired shows like "Snip," "The Singles Table," "Raising Caines," "Rewind," and "The Grubbs." Other than reading this book, the only way to view these series is at the Library of Congress or the Paley Center in NYC.
  •     finding out details on these shows is very interesting and valuable to a TV collector. It is now on my bookcase in near reach.
  •     Excellent reference on obscure shows from 1952 to 2011.Use Look Inside feature to see the Table of Content showing what 150 shows are included. The author provides a detailed episode guide. It even includes unaired episodes. Many times he had to watch them at the Library of Congress.Author interviewed the creators to find the back story. It's hard to imagine a TV guide more thorough.I loved this.A guide to these 150 shows.704 HauserA League of Their OwnA Year at the TopA.E.S.
