Daskam being called on behalf of the said Bird B.
Chapman, and being first sworn, to the following interrogatories makes answers as hereunto annexed: Interrogatory 1.
What is your name, age, occupation, and place of residence? Answer.
My name in James W.
Daskam; aged twenty-one; occupation, clerk; reside in Omaha City, Douglas county.
Were you in Omaha city, and at the polls, at the election on the third day of August last? Answer.
I was there at the polls the greater part of the day.
Did you see any persons from Florence about the polls who were active in the election? Answer.
Who were they? Answer.
One was John Thorington.
There were others, whose names I did not know.
What seemed to be Thorington's principal object? Answer.
Betting on Ferguson's getting the largest number of votes in the Territory.
Have you been at Florence before and since the election? Answer.
Yes; several times before and since.
Have you been there since the election to make in vestigations relative to the proceedings at the election? If so, state the facts.
I went at one time to obtain a copy of the poll-books for the election on the sixteenth day of July last on the railroad loan.
The result is set forth in an affidavit now in my hands, and which I submit as my answer to the question.
